"Merger Celebration: The Co-Creation of the Next"

Rev. Dr. Sofía Betancourt, President, Unitarian Universalist Association - This week we celebrate the historic merger of the First Parish Church of Stow and Acton and the Unitarian Church of Marlborough and Hudson, who have voted to merge together to be the Unitarian Universalist Congregation in the Assabet Valley! The sermon will be given by our Unitarian Universalist Association President, Rev. Dr. Sofía Betancourt, and local dignitaries will bring greetings and blessings. A luncheon will follow the service.

Karen Hering: "When we come to the edge of our knowing, and the journey is not yet over and the road we’ve been on disappears, remember it is only the map — not the world — that has ended."

Rev. Dr. Oscar Lewis Sinclar is the minister of Unity Church in St. Paul, Minnesota, and is also a trustee of the Unitarian Universalist Association Board.

"The Weaving Place"

An Intergenerational Service; No Religious Education classes

Yaakov Trek Reef, Intern Minister; Rev. Dr. Cynthia L. Landrum, Minister; and Rayla D. Baldwin-Mattson, Director of Religious Education - “The Weaving Place” is a participatory, intergenerational service written by J. L. Shattuck. We’ll explore the theme of interdependence through the act of weaving. By the end of the hour, we will have created unique woven artifacts that reflect the UUCAV community in this moment: imperfect, unfinished, and held together through participation, care, and presence. You are invited to bring a piece of ribbon, fabric, or yarn to add to our loom. Religious Education Teacher Training will follow the service.

Evening Service

Yaakov Trek Reef, Intern Minister - Join us in marking the Jewish High Holidays of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur with a special evening worship service. Through story, song, reflection, ritual, and the sound of the shofar, we’ll explore themes of renewal, repentance, forgiveness, and returning to ourselves and one another. All are welcome for this interactive and participatory service. You do not need to be Jewish or know anything about the High Holidays to join us.

"Ingathering and Water Communion"

An Intergenerational Service; No Religious Education classes

Rev. Dr. Cynthia L. Landrum  - The Unitarian Universalist Association is debuting a new theme curriculum program for worship, religious education, and small group ministries called “Woven Faith.” September’s theme is “Interdependence” and we’ll explore it throughout this month. Our worship year begins in our new community with a service that reflects our interdependence through the metaphor of living water. You are invited to bring a small container of water from someplace that you connected to this summer or this past year – a place that represents for you a joy or a sorrow, a moment of peace, or a place centered in love. This service will also include our “Backpack Blessing,” which blesses our children and youth as they begin their school year. An ice cream social will follow the service!

Come argue that idea with us, as we take a tour of music from its origins through to last week and discover why it has the power to reach into our very souls. Our journey will be punctuated with tunes sung and played for you by Caitlin & Ian McIntyre and Margot Law, and of course, we will all lift our voices together.

"Ars Moriendi: The Art of Dying"

Dave Sansone - Throughout history there have been guides who have laid down a path that connects life and death. Accompanied by several music videos, this service will review ideas of the afterlife, how remembering death can help us to remember to live our best life and finally, a look at the hospice movement through the eyes of a hospice volunteer. Following the service, there will be a listening service offered in the community room led by two UUCAV lay ministers for those who would like to share their personal stories surrounding death and dying.
